CHARLESTON, S.C. (Dec. 15, 2009) – The selection of 18 boys’ players for the id2 international trip is underway as the 2009 id2 Regional Training Camp in Phoenix has concluded after four days of high-level training and off-the-field sessions for boys born in 1996-97.

Part of the organization’s national identification and development program, the Dec. 10-13 camp in Phoenix complemented two previous id2 Regional Training Camps for boys born in 1996-97 and girls born in 1995-96, held Oct. 1-4 in Zarephath, N.J., and Nov. 12-15 in Frisco, Texas.

A team of the best 18 boys’ players from this fall’s id2 Regional Training Camps will take an international trip to the Netherlands and Germany, Feb. 5-14, 2010, where they will experience the day-to-day culture of some of the world’s most well-known professional clubs while also improving themselves via high-level training and game competition. The selection process is currently underway, and the trip comes at no cost to players, as all expenses and gear are provided by US Club Soccer and Nike.

“Our staff has some very difficult decisions to make as we look to send a strong group of players to Europe,” said Curt Johnson, US Club Soccer’s Senior Vice President. “Undoubtedly these players will have an incredible experience both on and off the field, which will impact their development in a positive way.”

The organization also recently announced an additional id2 Training Camp for girls born in 1994-95-96. The camp, which will be held in conjunction with the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), will take place Feb. 26-March 1, 2010, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Player recommendations of affiliated or unaffiliated players are currently being accepted.

On-field training sessions of the Phoenix id2 Regional Training Camp took place on the pristine natural grass fields of Reach 11 Sports Complex. Led by US Club Soccer’s id2 Boys’ Program Director Gerry McKeown, six staff coaches from some of the country’s most successful clubs ran training and game sessions.

Attended by USSF National Team staff, Regional Training Camps are part of US Club Soccer’s id2 national identification and development program, providing an opportunity for the country’s top youth talent to be identified and developed for inclusion in U.S. Soccer’s National Team programs.

Aided by their time at US Club Soccer’s id2 Regional Training Camps, numerous boys’ and girls’ attendees of past camps have advanced into U.S. Soccer’s National Team programs.

Those interested are able to visit the id2 Web page for more information on the organization’s national identification and development program.
