A Socio-Historical Look at the Africa Cup of Nations

Writer Andrew Guest, Ph.D is a professor of social and behavioral sciences at the University of Portland. He has spent time in Malawi and Angola, so he has a unique perspective on both the Africa Cup of Nations and the upcoming World Cup. He is fascinated how Africa’s colonial legacies shape the contemporary African game. The French, British, and Portuguese colonial domination of Africa is reflected in the development of each country’s football (soccer) cultures.
